De maestro geeft uitlegt over een bepaalde scène uit Un Ballo in Maschera:
“He is taking a walk in the moonlight with his òwn wife. This is very funny.. off course this happens, but..”

Over een cello solo: “Play with it.. Fool around with it.” Na een tegenwerping van de eerste cellist: “It was just a suggestion from a dumb conductor.”

Tegen de harpiste die te vroeg inzette: “Wait! It is a nice instrument, but occasionally it stops.”

Over een moeilijke trek bij de violen: “I heard better in my fantasies.”

“A pianissimo is among friends a soft note.”

“Play the shortest note you éver played.”

Over een bijna juist akkoord: “This is within the perimeters of possibility.”
